Labeling and Dating Regulations
Regulation 3337 (R3337) of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act (Act 54 of 1972) provides regulations relating to the labeling and advertising of foodstuffs. This regulation ensures consumers receive accurate information about food products, including dates of minimum durability, storage conditions, and ingredients.
Required for highly perishable foods that may pose immediate health risks after the date.

The name must accurately describe the true nature of the foodstuff and not mislead consumers about its characteristics.
All pre-packaged foods must display either a "best before" or "use by" date in the format DD/MM/YYYY or an approved alternative.
Ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight. Allergens must be clearly indicated.
Special storage conditions or conditions of use must be clearly indicated on the label.
