Food Premises and Food Handlers
Regulation 146 (R146) of the Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act (Act 54 of 1972) provides regulations governing the registration of food premises and the training of food handlers in South Africa. This regulation ensures that all personnel involved in food handling are properly trained and certified.
All food handlers must undergo formal training and obtain a certificate of competence. This certificate must be renewed every 5 years or when there are significant changes in duties.
